MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
May 1, 2011
Dear Member:
As we begin our new fiscal year for the EIFS Council of Canada,
we enclose your membership renewal
package for the 2011/12 period. Commencing with this renewal, ECC
is introducing an attractive new
membership plaque that will be engraved with your company name and
membership dates that you can
proudly display in your offices. We are confident you will be pleased
with this updated recognition of
your involvement in your industry association.
During this past year, your association has continued its positive
growth mandate in representing the
EIFS value chain in Canada. We have not only added more members
in Western Canada and the
Maritimes but the classification of members has expanded to include
membership from the
finance/insurance industry as well as further additions in the distributor
and building science consultant
fields. While several categories are reaching their saturation point
we still have plenty of opportunity to
improve our mandate for membership in the EIFS contractor category.
With respect to this initiative, I
would like to highlight an important value proposition that ECC
delivers that may not be fully appreciated
by some members and non-members alike.
In addition to ECC's active role in advancing our industry on a
variety of fronts including, codes and
standards, industry research/testing, education/training tool development
and advocacy and marketing
efforts, we provide a less visible and vital service to the end
user community. This often unnoticed
member benefit comes in the form of a 'selection resource' for designers,
builders, building officials and
other EIFS stakeholders to evaluate and assess various industry
participants. Designers will often use ECC
membership as key qualifying criteria for manufacturers and contractors
in their specifications and other
users regularly call or refer to our website to select EIFS contractors,
inspection firms and building science
consultants. While ECC membership in itself does not imply EIFS
certification of any kind, the perception
by the user community is that industry leaders will always belong
to and support their respective trade
associations and as such may perceive those who are not active as
not being current on industry
knowledge or advancements. This increasing reliance and dependency
on ECC by the EIFS user
community bodes well for our future and our membership.
Turning to the important milestones of the past year, we continued
with the introduction and roll-out of
EIFS Quality Assurance Program in Ontario. This critical strategic
objective continues to be a top priority
for our association and we are pleased to now have some of the essential
EIFS market
buyers/stakeholders on board with their respective organizations
support. We should begin to witness
the impact of the 'mandatory EQI requirements' from these organizations
in the near future as their
programs reference and request EQI involvement.
A further ECC achievement this past year was the completion and
publication of the National Standards
for EIFS that are known as CAN/ULC-S716-Parts 1, 2, 3. The release
of these requisite standards sets the
stage for the inclusion of EIFS in the National Building Code of
Canada as well as the respective Provincial
Codes across the country. As of this writing we are actively engaged
not only at the National Building
Code level but also the Ontario Building Code which is currently
under revision for January 1 2012
introduction. This will be the first of several provincial code
pursuits that we will undertake prior to the
new NBC release in 2014/15.
Turning to the last but certainly not least important 'game changer'
for the EIFS industry is the
introduction of the new National Energy Code that will come into
effect in some provinces beginning in
2012. Space does not allow me to fully elaborate on this key driver
for EIFS, but rest assured that the ECC
is committing the necessary financial and human capital on our end
to ensure that the EIFS industry
secures its anticipated market gains. We will keep you further posted
on our efforts on this front in
future communications.
In summary, no association can hope to achieve the mandate and
success envisioned for their industry
without the active participation and membership of the industry
stakeholders. To this end we look
forward to your continued support by way of a prompt return of your
enclosed membership renewal in
ECC for the 2011/12 year as well as your active participation in
the various association initiatives. We
would appreciate receiving your paid renewal no later than June
15th to maintain your membership
status in the updated association roster and web-site.
I want to close by thanking you for your support and membership
in the EIFS Council of Canada and wish
you continued success in your respective businesses throughout 2011
and beyond.
Yours truly,
EIFS COUNCIL OF CANADA

John M. Garbin
